The primary cedar we carry if California Incense Cedar (Calocedrus Decurrens) from the Sierras. It is the familiar soft, light brown wood that smells like pencils (and is so used because it can be sharpened from any angle without splitting). It is an extremely light, soft wood that is dimensionally stable (tends not to warp or split) and great for outdoor projects. However, it is weak and brittle. It can be used structurally as posts, but is not recommended as beams, girders, or rafters. It makes beautiful siding, shingles, shakes, and exterior trim.
