Western Sycamore (Platanus Racemosa) has a remarkable grain when quartersawn. It is a fairly soft hardwood and easily worked. It is not dimensionally stable, however, and is unsuitable for exterior applications. It makes exotically beautiful furniture and cabinetry, as well as built-in shelving, soffits, and interior door and window trim. I treat all my Sycamore with Timbor to prevent powder post beetles.
